After reading Strawsons essay a second time I noticed a lot more things. I released that she was talking about how people have their own narratives of their lives, but they can decide what they want people to hear. And I agree with that because say you want to tell someone about something that happened to you, you usually just say the parts you want them to hear. And they can’t tell if your saying the whole story unless they were their or experiences that situation with you.

Strawson also added that a narrative doesn’t come easy for just everyone. When I first read that I didn’t notice it, but the second time around reading it, I agreed with that and made a self-text connection. I think it would be hard for me to write a narrative about my own life because I don’t have enough experience to write about. And I also wouldn’t know what id want to write about. At my age we have so much to grow and learn from.

Strawson believes life is a story, and I agree with that. We all have many stories to tell, and throughout life we can create one big one. To put forward the big moments in life, and create them into one huge story. The first time reading the piece overall I didn’t have a full understanding of the story, but now I do after the second time around reading it.

  • It sounds like you do have a somewhat clearer understanding of Strawson, although I’m not sure if it’s fair to say that he argues that live is a story. Consider rereading one more time with a highlighter. Highlight any claims that he makes. This might help you see his argument more clearly.
