Barclay Paragraph

Our lives consists of narratives, and they are all around us. We use narratives to tell a story. We all are our own stories, and use narratives to explain life events. Julia Beck who wrote “Life’s a Story” believes narratives are what makes us, us. “Each of us constructs and lives a “narrative””(Beck). Beck writes about the importance of narratives, and how they are so apparent in our lives. And how they really do build up our lives. In a interview Katie Berger talks to her friend Alyssa Ehrenfried about her story and the impact it has on her. She talks about the story of her dad, and how he is in jail, but being apart for her dad makes her more motivated to not go down the same path as he did. “It shaped me to be a better person and knowing that I don’t have to end up like he ended up” (Ehrenfried). Her story of her dad impacts her life, and is part of her personal narrative. Just like Beck was saying, everyones lives have a narrative, and their narratives have a meaning and impact their lives. Alyssas narrative is one that she will carry with her throughout her life, and is her own personal narrative.

  • Great! This is a well-organized Barclay. As you continue to improve the paragraph, look for a longer quote. What about the moment when Beck claims that stories ARE personality. This might give you a little more to connect with.
