Learning Outcome 1

Not everyones first draft will be their final paper. Revisions are an important way to develop the paper more, and demonstrate global, and local revision.

Developing and expanding your essay allows you to touch on topics that you haven’t, as well as elaborate more on topics you’re currently writing about. For me, editing my rough draft is very important. I can fix things I didn’t like at first, and elaborate on topics more. For example in my rough draft my thesis wasn’t as developed. So when working on m y final draft I narrowed my thesis down more. And got more specific. Another example of editing that I did was, I looked at my first sentence of each paragraph and asked myself if this paragraph stayed true to topic. I went through my whole paper and did that. And made adjustments to my paper. A way I expanded my paper more was I re visited my conclusion. AT first meh conclusion was short, and wasn’t detailed. So I expanded my conclusion more and elaborated on what I already had more. For example I added “Metaphors are in the everyday conversations we have with people around us” (Horton 4). That small sentenced allowed me to expand on the fact that metaphors indeed have a large impact on people. Small changes like that can really set up a paper to be more detailed.

Writers who are able to expand and develop a paper more show how your first draft isn’t the final one. And more and more can be added to a paper to make a successful, and stronger paper as a whole.
