TREAC Paragraph

Art is very important, and can effect many aspects of education. It can make someone use creativity to solve a problem. You may wonder how, but art is a creative tool we use that we can expand our thoughts on. Lehrer agrees with this, and thinks that art has a great effect on science. He argues that “Science needs the arts. We need to find a place for the artist within the experimental process” (Lehrer). He sees the need for art, because of the enhancement it makes to science.

Barclay Paragraph

Both Yo-Yo-Ma and Lehrer argue the importance of art, but have different opinions on things that enhance it. In “The Future of Science…Is Art?” Lehrer argues that science depends, and needs art, he says “Science needs the arts. We need to find a place for the artist within the experimental process” (Lehrer). For Lehrer, he thinks that experiments take someone who is creative and artistic to be able to think of and design experiments. In contrast with Yo-Yo-Ma, who wrote “Arts, Empathy, and Education”. Ma thinks that science, math and engineering dosen’t incorporate the arts. Infact he thinks they’re “short sighted”. Ma argues “science, technology, engineering, and math. As important as that is, its short sighted. We need to add the empathetic reasoning of the arts to the mix” (Ma). Ma sees a lack of arts in those subjects, and rejects the thought that its already incorporated in science. He dosen’t think that art is apart of science at all, unlike Lehrer.
